OBAMA WORK PERMIT ELEVATES QUALIFIED IMMIGRANTS TO CAREER JOBS
Obama Immigrant work permit unveiled the President’s concept to assimilate the qualified illegal immigrants into the mainstream by encouraging them to adopt the legal path and contribute to the economy. The permit seeker must not be more than 30 years old and must have come to the United States before the age of 16.
The decision has unleashed a wave of joy and relief among the illegal immigrant community though the policy does not grant any permanent legal status to them. Also in the new immigration Bill Illegal Immigration work permit has an exalted role as a solution for those working illegally. It will also help those who came to the country as young children to seek citizenship quickly. People working in agriculture would also get a particular path toward legalization.
Millions of other people who came illegally to the USA would get a basic work permit, renewable after paying fines and back taxes and after a criminal background check is done. Citizenship may take a longer time than what the Senate bill envisioned through its 10-year path to green card and a three year wait for citizenship.
Positive Step
Welcoming Obama Immigrant work permit, Steven Raphael, an expert in public policy at Berkeley, said “Many youngsters eligible for the program are locked into jobs that do not require proof of citizenship or a work permit. They do service jobs and get paid in cash by working as restaurant staff, home cleaners, landscapers, babysitters or dog walkers.”
Roberto G. Gonzales, a sociologist at the University of Chicago who did research about illegal immigrants, welcomed Illegal Immigrant work permit that addresses college-educated young people doing low-skilled jobs.
Roberto noted that many of them had skills to work as engineers and professionals in health care, education and law. The new policy would allow them to apply for jobs closer to their aspirations and others to rejoin the mainstream.
